Heartwork Counseling Center is a small, intentionally built practice founded by husband and wife team Ian and Christina Nelson-Johnson.
We believe meaningful change begins with paying attention—to ourselves, our relationships, our experiences, and the ways we move through the world.
That's what we mean by heartwork.
What Heartwork Means to Us
Being willing to look honestly at what's happening.
Growth doesn't require us to become different people or leave our past behind. It often begins with understanding ourselves more clearly: our patterns, our relationships, our experiences, our values, and the things that matter to us.
Doing the work in relationship.
We don't believe you have to figure everything out on your own. A good therapeutic or coaching relationship can give you room to slow down, ask difficult questions, try something different, and be met with honesty and respect along the way.
Making room for what is true.
Real life is complicated. People can hold conflicting feelings, change their minds, question what they've been taught, and grow in unexpected directions. We don't believe you need to have everything figured out before you begin.
Practicing what we believe.
We don't have a secret formula for living a problem-free life—and we don't pretend to. We are therapists, a coach, partners, parents, and people who are still learning. We believe in continuing to grow, both personally and professionally, and in approaching our work with humility and curiosity.
Our Approach
At Heartwork, we aren't interested in quick fixes or one-size-fits-all answers.
Therapy and coaching are different forms of support, but both can provide a space to slow down, gain perspective, and make meaningful changes. Our work is grounded in the belief that you are the expert on your own life. Our role is to bring knowledge, experience, thoughtful questions, and a different perspective to the conversation.
Sometimes the work involves healing from painful experiences. Sometimes it means changing a pattern that isn't serving you anymore. Sometimes it means figuring out what you actually want in the first place.
Whatever brings you through our door, we'll meet you where you are.
Heartwork isn't about becoming a better version of yourself. It's about understanding yourself more so you can live with greater intention and connection.
